Pearl Painters is a full service Interior and Exterior painting company founded in Portland Oregon by Brian Kemnitz. We have all heard the stories, "my painter was an hour late" (or didn't show up at all), or "he just never showed up again...I still have his ladder and some tools". Brian wanted to create a company to help change that image. He wanted to treat each client and his/her home, as they should be treated, professionally and respectfully. This service should be the standard, not the exception.
Regardless the size of the job, we provide you with detailed estimates so that you know exactly what we are doing for you and what you can expect from us. We then commit, without compromise, to delivering what we promise. This holds true whether you are new to Pearl Painters, or you are one of our clients returning to us for new projects or new ideas.

Brian Kemnitz
Brian has been involved in the client service industry since he was 17 years old when he ran a service business with his father. His greatest lesson learned was "deliver what you promise" to your clients, no matter what.
After that first experience with client service, Brian, along with Eric Doebele founded a company with the sole focus of providing contractor referrals to homeowners. This was not an easy process...the company screened and assisted contractors with their business by offering training in areas like finance, hiring and time management. The company then followed up with each homeowner to find out their level of satisfaction with the process.
While he was involved with this company, he noted that there were distinct and repetitive complaints about contractors, and painters specifically. They didn't show up for appointments, or they didn't show up for the job at all, they didn't finish the job and they didn't give the client what they paid for. This didn't sit well with him. Brian noted that "there is no other job in the world where this level of disinterest or disrespect is acceptable, so let's change the perception." And so began Pearl Painters.
Brian started the business and built a reputation as a high touch company for interior and exterior painting. He then became interested in the specialty finish side of the business. He found that there were so many great finishes waiting to be discovered and there is a great sense of satisfaction in the artistic side of the painting business. At this point he hired two amazing artists and began to scratch the surface of a whole new world of offerings for Pearl Painters' clients. The Pearl Painters design showroom was built where new ideas and concepts are displayed.
Brian has high expectations for himself, his employees and his company. He insists that each employee adhere to the following principals:

Cabinetry & Woodwork
The woodwork, cabinetry and doors throughout your home make as much of a statement about your style as the colors you select to surround it. Gone are the days of plain white everything. Even subtle changes in color make a big impact to the overall design of a room. Pick up any magazine and you will see that the rules for woodwork and cabinetry have changed. Use of different stains, colors and grains will help you personalize your home.
One of the largest expenses in a remodel is refacing or replacing cabinetry. Let’s face it, the doors and drawers work just fine, but you are tired of the color, style, or the woodgrain. It is hard to justify putting the whole thing in a landfill for just those reasons. There are so many finishes we can apply to your cabinets anywhere from painting the cabinetry to adding a specialty finish...at a price point that is significantly less than tearing it out and starting over. Additionally, the water based clear coats that we use on all of our woodwork and cabinetry is less toxic, longer lasting and doesn’t yellow like the finishes you see in today’s new construction and cabinetry shops.

Cathy Kemnitz
Cathy is a native Oregonian and graduated from Portland State University in 1988 with a BS in Business Administration-Accounting. She worked for Price Waterhouse (before the "Coopers" was added) and became a licensed CPA. She has been a Corporate Controller and a consultant for several companies in both Portland and Seattle over the past 12 years.
As Pearl Painters grew she decided it was time to leave corporate America and help Brian bring a refreshing level of professionalism and client service to the painting industry in Portland. Cathy has been elected to the Board of Directors for Northwest Society of Interior Designers (NWSID - www.NWSID.org) as their Professional Resource Affiliate Representative for the board year 2007-2008. She was also elected to the Board for American Society of Interior Designers (ASID - www.asidoregon.org) to serve as their Finance Director for the 2007-2009 board years. Additionally, Cathy is active in the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America (PDCA) organization, as well as the Oregon Remodelers Association (ORA).
This year, Cathy coordinated the first annual Pearl Painters Dress for Success clothing drive, held on April 18, 2007 in the design showroom. The drive was such a success that she is making this an annual event.
When she is not working or networking, Cathy enjoys traveling, hiking, biking and spending time with her husband, her 5 year old son and her friends.

Clean Up / Final Inspection
We want your feeling about your painting experience to last at least as long as your paint job! The Clean Up and Final Inspection will set us apart from the rest of the competition.
Clean-Up
Performed daily and upon completion of the job
Plant beds cleaned and paint chips removed
Touch-up paint is labeled & left with the customer
Outdoor fixtures & furniture left as we found them
All trash is removed from site
Final Inspection
First the crew will do a final inspection on their own to ensure that all work is complete as agreed on the contract, that there are not any touch ups and that all cleanup is complete
Second the crew will ask the customer to inspect the job and any areas of concern will be noted on a 'punch list'
Once all areas are complete and to the customers satisfaction, the crew will ask for a letter of reference
The final step is for the customer to sign off on the job as to its completeness and submit the final payment

Many of our clients are well travelled or have transplanted to Oregon. They have brought with them ideas from around the world for finishes which we have not seen here. Many national publications such as Veranda, Dream Kitchen and Bath and Trends show the use of finishes on every surface from walls to cabinetry.
