Faux Finishes

Another way to express your style is use of faux finishes or decorative painting. The literal interpretation of the term 'faux finish' is a finish that replicates something natural like, marble, wood or stone.  Unfortunately, many people have seen some bad interpretations of  faux finishes...things like sponge painting or rag rolling come to mind.  The not-so-great finishes exist because the good finishes are not easy.  Learning a faux finish on a sample board in a week long class is very different than making it look natural on a whole wall.  We have degreed artists on our crew who have trained in various places in the world.  Their training and experience is critical because putting a finish on a wall requires more consideration than just the color or technique.  You must consider scale of the pattern, or lack of pattern, weight, continuity and the ability to create art that is completed in sections...yet must appear seamless.  This is where the difference becomes apparent between a person who says they are as a "faux finisher" and the true professional artist.  These designed and decorative finishes can be subtle or bold, but each is designed with you for your home.

We will help guide you through the many options for a designed faux finish by showing you over-sized samples of various techniques, colors, and styles. Pictures of past projects and samples displayed in our showroom are a great visual for the creation of ideas for your home.

Bring samples of the elements from your home to the showroom.  Starting with  a piece of granite, a fabric swatch, or a print...now the fun begins when we are able to collaborate to bring the elements together with a finish for your walls.  We work with you to determine the right shades and textures based on your home and the colors you have used in designing your living space. Once you've made a decision, sample boards will be created for you. Upon your approval, we begin to work on your personalized masterpiece.

Interiors

Pearl Painters will tailor each interior project for you, assisting with color, texture and the overall feel in your home. We are available year round to provide you with professional services, including Interior Painting, Faux Finishes, Italian Plasters, and Cabinetry & Woodwork. Attention to detail and respect for your time and your home are the characteristics which built the foundation for Pearl Painters.  We started the company by offering Interior Painting services with an emphasis on client satisfaction...something often missing in the painting trade.  We later found that our clients who travelled abroad or lived outside of Oregon were bringing ideas to us for specialty finishes such as glazing, antiquing and Venetian Plaster...finishes that weren't often seen here.  Pearl Painters then hired artists and delved into the creative world of designed faux finishes.

The options are endless and ideas can become reality. Whichever finish you choose, the basic principals apply, we respect your time, provide you updates on your project, and work closely with you to create a backdrop for your living spaces.

Italian Plasters

For centuries, fine artisans have been creating beautiful walls through the use of limestone plasters colored with natural ingredients. As you travel through the Mediterranean countries you are able to see these walls, softened with a rich patina from age. Fortunately Europe is not the only place you will find these plaster techniques today as they have been introduced to the United States. They have caught the attention of Interior Designers and Architects in a major way.

Venetian Plaster is an Old World technique that starts with limestone rocks from rivers or quarries. By the use of heat, water and time, the limestone is turned into an amazing “lime putty”. Mixed with such colorants as ground marble dust, and applied via steel trowels with refined techniques, Venetian Plaster turns an ordinary wall or ceiling into a masterpiece.

Although some Venetian Plasters are polished or “burnished” with a sheen, techniques have been developed to give a multitude of different effects from suede to marble to stone. It is through the artisan’s imagination and the refinement of technique that truly wonderful effects are created. These effects can be used in many styles such as Old World, Contemporary, Tuscan, Traditional, etc.

Keys Project

This is a new South Waterfront condo in the Meriwether building overlooking the Willamette River. We worked closely with the homeowner and the Interior Designer Liane Mullahey from The Complete Solution to create beautiful home.  We hand troweled a Gold and Bronze Metallic Venetian Plaster on all of the walls in the main living areas.  The condo has 8 doors, each of which received the same treatment of crimson red paint to match the furniture and a different copper leaf bamboo pattern to complete the Contemporary Asian Design palette.
