One of the biggest concerns we hear from homeowners when it comes to painting the exterior of their house isn’t about the color – it’s about the mess. Will there be dust flying everywhere? Are we going to leave paint chips behind in your flower beds? Are your walkways going to look like a construction site?
Fair questions. And here’s our honest answer: We don’t just paint houses. We take care of them. Keeping your home and property clean during and after an exterior paint project is a core part of how we work. It’s not a bonus or an afterthought. It’s baked into our process.
Let’s walk you through what we do before, during, and after your exterior project to make sure your home looks better, not worse, every step of the way.
Before We Even Open a Paint Can
We’re not the kind of crew that shows up, sets up ladders, and starts slinging paint. Our exterior painting process starts with preparation. And a huge part of that prep is making sure your landscaping, walkways, windows, siding, roofline, vents, and fixtures are protected from dust, chips, and overspray.
We start by covering delicate areas like windows, exterior lights, grills, outdoor furniture, and plants with plastic or masking film. We use paper and drop cloths to cover walkways and hard surfaces. We tape off anything that can’t be removed and remove anything that can (think house numbers, light fixtures, and sometimes door hardware). We don’t skip this step, because we don’t like do-overs. And we certainly don’t like making a mess on your property.
So… Will There Be Dust?
Yes. Prepping a home for exterior paint, especially when dealing with old, peeling paint, involves some level of sanding, scraping, and power washing. And that kicks up dust and chips. But here’s the thing: just because there’s dust doesn’t mean it has to spread.
We use HEPA vacuums and containment methods when sanding. When scraping or removing loose paint, we set up ground coverings to catch the debris. And we don’t just leave it there. Our team collects and properly disposes of all paint chips, dust, and other waste every day we’re on-site. You won’t find random chips of blue or green paint in your grass two months later. That’s just not how we do things.
Tidy Work Zone, Always
We treat your home like we’d want someone to treat ours. That means at the end of every day, we do a full cleanup of the job site. Drop cloths are shaken out or replaced. Tools are stacked and stored. Ladders are taken down or neatly grouped out of the way. We don’t leave coffee cups on your porch, and we certainly don’t leave plastic blowing around your yard.
Final Cleanup Makes All the Difference
Once your house is painted and looking brand new, our job’s still not quite done. We walk the entire property with a blue tape inspection checklist to catch any touch-ups or details that need attention. While we’re at it, we check for any remaining debris, missed tape, or stray chips. We sweep walkways. We remove all masking and plastic, clean up drop cloths, and haul everything away.
In short, we leave your property looking like we were never there, except for the freshly painted, great-looking house.
What Mess Will You Leave Behind?
None. That’s the goal, and it’s what we strive for every single time. No paint-splattered shrubs. No clogged drains. No trash on the porch. No mystery nails in your driveway.
If we do leave something behind, it’s by mistake and we will fix it. But the vast majority of our clients say the same thing: “Your crew left our place cleaner than when you started.”
