What We've Been Up To
May 2025
We post projects on a monthly basis, regularly showing off the painting projects that we've tackled throughout the Portland area.
These clients love their home and wanted to make sure they found someone who would treat it with the care and love they give it as well. Attention to detail was huge for them, making sure everything was dialed in exactly how they wanted, even doing a few unique things like using a higher sheen on a section for easier cleaning purposes. The client said it best in their 5 star review they left us. Check it out!
The client bought this home and loves it, but wanted to change the color. We worked closely during the estimate on colors and going over our process to ensure what we could take care of and what was outside of our expertise as well. There was some potential water damage on the inside around the front door, so we had a very clear discussion around what we could and could not take care so we didn’t over-promise to our client.
This was a unique one. It’s a fairly new home, the living room is vaulted a full 18ft, and the fireplace mantle extends that full length – floor to ceiling! The client really wanted to make this a grand centerpiece to his new home, so we chose a brilliant black and got to work. It was super important to take care and time masking off the area so we didn’t have a logistical nightmare or dust escaping to the entire rest of the home.

This client has done several projects with us. This time, we were fixing up her rental home. The tenants moved out, and she wanted to give certain things a facelift before moving in herself. Some full painting on walls, and various trim touch-ups to get it back to its former beauty. We will be back next month for the exterior!

This returning client wanted the final piece to the front of their home that they have put so much work into – Painting their front door to match the rest of the design they have put together. We needed to make sure conditions were right for this one since it had rained a bunch the week we had planned on painting this door and it was going black…. not a good combo! We communicated very closely with the client to meet their needs, while ensuring the work was being done in proper conditions so we could stand behind our work.
Another nightmare problem Pearl Painters has stepped in and saved. These clients hired someone to remove the popcorn ceiling, retexture and paint. This prior contractor delivered shoddy work, little or no communication, the wrong paint color, and it was so bad the clients now needed to paint the walls as well as the ceiling. The clients had to kick them out and cut their losses like so many others. We worked with them on a clear scope of work, entirely custom designed for their home and needs, provided clear daily communication, and delivered on what we promised. These clients suggested we get in the coaching business for other contractors because the whole experience from our website to the crew signing off at the end was unlike anything else they had been used to.

We took care of this client’s interior many years ago, so when it came time to do the exterior we were the first people they called. They love the home but were ready for a change. New colors, prep, and some dry rot repair were all taken care of by Pearl.
Customer referral
Referred to us by a long time client, this homeowner wanted to recreate the beauty of their exterior. They loved the color scheme still and wanted to protect and revitalize their home for years to come. We helped to ensure things were done in the right order, like new roof, dry rot repair, and then painting. We color matched the existing colors to keep the home as similar as possible, and did a ton of scraping prep to get the home back in order.

We have done a couple projects for this client’s home personally, and now we have had the pleasure of working in her office for the Oregon Change Clinic. They do some pretty incredible work making our beloved city a cleaner, safer, healthier place. They just finished moving into their new office and we added the accent walls to the entry and seating areas.
The previous owners had a fence built last year but didn’t treat it. The client was renovating the whole front yard with new plants, mulch, walking paths, and wanted the fence cleaned and stained to go with the rest of the hard work being done. We took extra care to protect the new plants while we stained the fence.
These clients are moving out of country. Quality and karma were really important to them, and they didn’t want to choose the lowest bidder and leave the new owners with a nasty problem. There was several spots of dry rot, fading paint, and tons of caulking and prep. The clients were really interested in being able to leave behind our proposal with our custom scope of work video so the new owners knew exactly what was taken care of and how, passing along the Pearl quality and work.

We have painted a few of her friends homes. Her and her husband just bought their dream home and wanted to make it their own as much as possible before moving in and wanted it done professionally and fast! they also needed someone take care to work around and protect the intricate wood details of their new home, that was a huge selling point and very important to keep clean.
Vannessa @ Color Moxie
This client just moved into his brand new home. Every single surface in every single portion of the home was painted the exact same white. He needed color and flair, so he hired Vanessa from ColorMoxie to create a full home color re-design. There are 8 colors in total, seamlessly blending together to create an entirely new look and feel. As well, everything had been very professionally done before—a lot of the walls and ceilings were shiplap, so extra care was needed to spray way more than normal on an interior project like this. Other big reasons we were chosen were the glowing referral we got from Vanessa with ColorMoxie. Given the timeline and size of the project, we doubled up our teams to get this done as fast and efficiently as possible while they were away. They did not want to be home dealing with the smells and activity of taking over an entire home the way it must be done when so much spraying is being done.

We painted the previous home of this client several years ago, and now his new home’s exterior needed work too. He drives by his old house and sees how good it still looks so he reached out to us for this one. He was looking for new colors and some dry rot repair on top of the quality work. He loves the brick and accents on the home so we coordinated with him on new colors to tie into those aspects. The home’s wood siding was super dry so it was critical to thoroughly back roll the paint into the siding since it soaked up much more paint than normal.
These clients have moved a lot and been through several kitchen remodels. They originally called us out for the cabinets, which were old honey oak. Initially, the cabinets required several other carpentry tasks so we got them in touch with Jacob, from Restoration Cabinetry & Design. He gave the cabinets the modern face lift they needed with brand new no-grain cabinets. After that was taken care of, we came back to finalize the space, taking care of the rest of the trim, and the walls throughout the kitchen and the connected living room.
The client hired a contractor through a friend, but they botched the cabinet job so badly she eventually had to fire them. Two other painters failed to fix the damage, leaving her with ruined doors and months of frustration. Eight months later, she called us – we restored her worst cabinet as a test, earned her trust, and then completed the whole kitchen.
This story has so many more details that we’ll share in an upcoming featured project post. To begin to understand how bad this situation was, take a look at the massive amount of blue tape in the before photos below. Every single one marks a flaw left over from the previous painter.
The client worked as their own General Contractor to coordinate their bathroom remodel. Everything from new tile, shower, mirrors, lighting, and painting. They have been working hard to create a brand new bathroom that they could better enjoy and needed professional painters to put the finishing touch on it. They had hired painters in the past to paint different bathroom cabinets, but the experience left them searching for something a little more professional, especially for their master bathroom they have put so much work into.
The client had her garage door replaced and the HOA immediately hounded her to get it painted to match the rest of the home. At the time, the weather was not right for a garage door to be painted properly, but fortunately the HOA permitted a time extension so that we could return as soon as the conditions were ideal.

This client has really nice Ipe wood decking and benches that we have re-stained every year for multiple seasons. Given the nature of Ipe wood, refinishing it only lasts about a season in the PNW. However, since we have been staying on top of it every year, the maintenance, cleaning, and sanding is very minimal, making this a quick, cost-efficient project for our client each Spring. Between her beach home and this house we have worked for this client 9 times in the last 12 years. We have worked hard on nearly every inch of their Manzanita Beach house both inside and out, and the same for their SW Portland home.

These clients are moving and needed uniformity for wall color. They had two rooms with personalized colors and wanted them the same color as the rest of the home again for selling purposes. We were able to work with their timeline and provide a quick turn around for this wall painting project.
This home has a lovely covered outdoor patio with 4 skylights. The whole ceiling has a finish on it, but because of the skylight portions it gets way too hot and the finish needs frequent work. Every year it peels and causes a bunch of work to scrape, sand, and re-finish. The client wanted it to look nice and require less maintenance, so we decided to go with a stain to closely match the rest of the finish. We chose this because even in the heat of the skylights, the stain will fade over time rather than peel, so in the future less work is needed and we can keep the same look.
Last year, the client had their roof replaced along with new soffit decking boards and fascia boards. These were all new and needed to be primed and painted to match the rest of the home. The siding on their chimney was also in rough shape, with woodpecker holes and peeling paint. The clients were no longer comfortable being up on ladders and simply didn’t want to tackle this project themselves, so called in the experts from Pearl Painters.
For the most part, this client’s home was in good condition. However, they spend a lot of time on the back deck which takes a lot from the sun. The accent beams were wearing down and they really wanted to keep it looking new. They also had some water damage on a portion of siding. We scraped off all the failing paint, primed, and repainted the upper section end-to-end to ensure uniformity for them.

Last month we finished the interior of this kitchen remodel, and this month we are back to do the exterior now that the weather is better. The clients love cooking and have a big family. They needed more space for the kitchen so they had their kitchen added / bumped out. This portion of the project was sealing and protecting the new outside walls. We also needed to color match and carefully cut in to the rest of the home that we were not painting to preserve the aesthetic of the rest of the home.
