Have you wondered how professional painters get such perfectly straight lines? There is a method that we at Pearl Painters swear by: back sealing.
Check out this insider video direct from our own painting crew’s training manual! It contains the secret to how we prevent bleeding and making sure there’s a crisp line between the paint that goes on your walls and the trim down below.
Back sealing is our tried and true technique to give us those crisp lines. Before any tape goes down, we thoroughly clean every surface so that there’s no dust or residue. We choose the right tape for the job. Whether it’s 3M Blue or Delicate Surface tape, we make sure it’s pressed firmly and sealed tight, because even the smallest gap can lead to paint bleed.
Back sealing is where the magic happens. Once the tape is in place, we lightly paint over the edge of the tape using the existing color (for example, trim paint before wall paint). That first layer seals any microscopic gaps, locking out the new color and guaranteeing a perfectly crisp line. Once it’s dry, we remove the tape revealing razor-straight edges that look like they were printed on. Want crisp lines like this? Make sure you choose the Pearl Lux finishing standard NOT the industry standard PCA finishing standard.
Some painters skip tape entirely, claiming to “cut in” by hand, but even the steadiest hand can’t match the consistently razor-straight lines we get with back sealing. We take our time, because the results speak for themselves: flawless transitions, clean corners, and that professional finish that makes a room feel polished and intentional.
